STUDIO CITY, Calif. (KTLA) -- Authorities have identified a body found near Harvard-Westlake School in Studio City. The Los Angeles County coroner's office says the body is that of 57-year-old James Ernest Oberg.
Coroner investigators say Oberg committed suicide, dying from asphyxiation, but did not know if the victim had hanged himself.
According to Los Angeles police, Oberg was last seen on the morning of May 31 near his home in the 3900 block of Coldwater Canyon Avenue.
A security guard at Harvard-Westlake found the body tied to a tree in the 3700 block of Coldwater Canyon around 8:15 a.m. Friday, according to LAPD officials.
The body was not found on the school's campus but the land across the street is owned by the school.
The security guard who found the body told the Harvard-Westlake Chronicle that the body looked like it had been there for several days before it was discovered.
