Twitter user arrested after allegedly tweeting identity of sex abuse victim in relation to Michael Le Vell trial

A tweeter was arrested last night on suspicion of using the social media site Twitter to reveal the identity of the alleged sex abuse victim in the Michael Le Vell trial.

A 43-year-old man from the Gloucester area was arrested on suspicion of breaching the Sexual Offences Act in relation to publically identifying a victim of alleged sex abuse. He has since been released on bail.

Le Vell, whose real name is Michael Turner and plays Kevin Webster in Coronation Street, is facing charges of 12 sexual abuse charges spanning eight years.

Superintendent Phil Davies from Greater Manchester Police, said: “Public identification of victims of sex abuse, in particular child victims engaged in court proceedings, can cause both immediate and long term distress and harm, especially in cases as serious as this.

“The same principles apply to social media as they do to the mainstream media, and we are investigating this matter robustly.”

Under the Sexual Offences Amendment Act 1992, all victims of sex abuse are automatically granted anonymity for life.

Le Vell, a 48-year-old father of two, is accused of five counts of rape, three of indecent assault, two counts of sexual activity with a child and two of causing a child to engage in sexual activity.

The alleged abuse of a minor, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is said to have taken place between September 2002 and September 2010. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Superintendent Davies warned of the dangers of using social media without thinking beforehand.

“Social media is a fantastic tool for self-expression and part of modern life, but users should ask themselves whether they would want their own child subject to a Twitter feed,” he said.

“People may not understand that when they use social media they are required by the law to keep victims anonymous in exactly the same way as people who work in main stream media. The rule of law and consciousness of a sex abuse victim's anonymity should be considered by all who follow these types of cases."

Confessions of a cold-blooded killer

This is a four-part story... It's filled with some graphic detail on how a 72-year-old serial killer murdered 11 preteen and teen girls in the 1970s... I'll show you the first part of the article... If you want to read the rest, go to the link below...

He calls his victims the "Eleven that went to Heaven."

Edward Harold Bell, admitted sex offender, convicted murderer and self-described serial killer, has given multiple chilling confessions from his locked prison cell of abducting and slaying teenage and adolescent girls in the 1970s, describing crimes even now unsolved.

In disturbing letters sent to Harris and Galveston county prosecutors in 1998 - but kept secret for 13 years - Bell claimed to have killed seven girls, including two Galveston 15-year-olds shot as they stood tied up and half naked in the chilly waters of Turner Bayou, according to excerpts and descriptions of Bell's letters obtained by the Houston Chronicle.

In July and September, in exclusive interviews, Bell, now gaunt and pasty-faced at 72, told a Chronicle reporter the tally of lives was not just seven, but 11, the "Eleven that went to Heaven."

Bell claims a brainwashing "program" forced him to "be a flasher," to "rape girls" and ultimately to kill.
Several senior investigators familiar with Bell's letters of confessions told the Chronicle they have long believed he committed multiple murders and found evi-dence to corroborate his claims. But probes stalled.

Galveston prosecutors refused to present Bell's written confessions to a grand jury. Harris County prosecutors never investigated the claims and subsequently lost the letters. And Bell refused to cooperate with police. Several investigators said not enough effort was made in 1998 to re-investigate the cases.

One former Galveston DA, Kurt Sistrunk, told the Chronicle, "I didn't believe we had sufficient evidence that we could proceed to grand jury with, and without getting into specifics, that's the decision that had to be made, no matter the temptations to proceed otherwise ... It wasn't for a lack of effort."

Saw her son die
Bell is serving 70 years for the 1978 murder of Larry Dickens, a Marine who confronted Bell after he exited his red and white GMC pickup naked from the waist down and began masturbating in front of a group of girls in Pasadena. Dickens' mother watched from her house as Bell shot her son four times, emptying his pistol, then retrieved a rifle to administer a coup de grace.

The "program" killings, as Bell calls them, began well before then. The victims were young girls from Houston, Galveston, Webster and Dickinson. The murders came in waves: five in 1971 and six more from about 1974 to 1977. Six teens, he adds, were murdered in pairs.

Bell named three victims from 1971: Debbie Ackerman and Maria Johnson, 15-year-old Galveston surfer girls and experienced water skiers who disappeared after hitchhiking, and Colette Anise Wilson, 13, who never arrived home near Alvin after attending a summer band camp.

All three cases remain unsolved, though Brazoria County Sheriff's officials long theorized Wilson and another girl were murdered by a convict killed in a 1972 jail escape. Wilson's bones were found in a reservoir mingled with those of a missing Houston girl, Gloria Ann Gonzales, 19.

In 1998, Bell described murdering Ackerman and Johnson in letters written from a maximum security cell in Huntsville 17 years after the crime: "I was 'Brainwashed' into killing Deby (sic) Ackerman and Maria Johnson in November 1971," Bell wrote. He detailed how he shot them and described the remote bridge where the bodies were recovered.

Ackerman and Johnson were last seen accepting a ride near an island ice cream shop from a man driving a white van. Their abductor tied them up, stripped them from the waist down and left their bodies in the bayou, records show.

Dutch probe uncovers hidden CP sites in US

AMSTERDAM (AP) — Dutch police have uncovered huge caches of child pornography on "hidden" websites, including four based in the United States, prosecutors announced Wednesday.
The discovery was made as part of the far-reaching investigation into a suspected pedophile identified only as Robert M. who was arrested in Amsterdam last year. He is accused of abusing dozens of young children while he worked in at least two Amsterdam preschools.

The Dutch police's National Investigations Office said in a statement it had managed to infiltrate several "hidden services" sites internationally where users can surf the internet and communicate anonymously.
There, they found some 220,000 child pornography photos and videos.

Four of the websites were housed on two servers based in the United States. Investigators managed to break into them and access the images as well as online chats that included identifying details of users of the sites. The details are being turned over to the FBI, prosecutors said.

Prosecution spokesman Wim de Bruin said no arrests have yet been made as a result of the discovery.
Prosecutors said they saved the images as evidence before deleting them from the servers.
One of the hidden sites police discovered was called "Violent Desires."

"As well as child pornography, it contained a discussion forum that included chats about abducting, abusing and killing children," prosecutors said.

They also gained access as visitors to 11 sites containing child pornography, where they posted police warning signs in a move designed to scare off people accessing the sites
.
Robert M. was arrested last December and his computers seized. Prosecutors say he has confessed to dozens of sex crimes inflicted on boys and girls aged under four years.
