Moreno Valley Unified School District attorney Christopher Keeler explains options board has to restrict jailed trustee Mike Rios.

In addition to being accused of attempted murder, Moreno Valley Unified School District board trustee Mike Rios has more recently been charged with 11 counts of rape and pimping. His colleagues on the board unanimously agreed this week to censure Rios after the charges surfaced. The board’s Tuesday meeting was packed with students and parents seeking his dismissal. Under state law, Rios is allowed to remain on the board unless convicted of a felony. The board is also seeking a restraining order to keep Rios off of school district property and has requested his resignation.

Rios said that he is the target of a political vendetta in a jailhouse interview with the Riverside Press Enterprise. Rios is being held in county jail on a $250 million bail and his next court hearing is set for later this month.
